This prose elixir so far has everything I adore in a book: references to books I have read and more that I haven’t; vocabulary that is new to me; stories that read like autobiographies, so authentic in voice are they; phrases that are a susurrus of words.

Diana Cramer This sounds better than the book I tried (and failed) to read.
Reckoning with the intertwined histories of the Caribbean and Britain seems to have been a theme this month for me. I saw The Long Song on PBS, and read Wide Sargasso Sea.

Diana Cramer (There was also a subplot with a Jamaican character in Miss Scarlet & The Duke if you've been watching that.)

Diana Cramer Both of them were very good, but very different!
