What Can Forrest Gump Tell Us About Students’ Historical Understanding:
Interesting perspectives on where students and families access brighter historical narratives. Surprised didn’t mention anything about public history.

Authentic Intellectual Work
As the title of the essay states, it covered the concept of authentic intellectual work, which involves: construction of knowledge, disciplined inquiry, and value beyond school. I did not enjoy this essay as much as some of the previous ones. It felt very theoretical without much practical application to a classroom setting.

This chapter did not necessarily apply to me as I am not a test of subject in North Carolina. Still offered some interesting perspectives on how teachers respond to all of the challenges and expectations we face day to day.

Chapter 4: Why Don’t More History Teachers Engage Students in Interpretation?

Having training and academic history at a collegiate level versus teaching it to younger children presents quite a few challenges. This was an interesting assessment of what I have personally experienced.
