This book is for affluent, straight white cis people. It starts off intriguing, perhaps overpromising some reflections on religion vis-à-vis childhood development and gender expectations, before quickly devolving into cliché self-help generalizations, with little or no acknowledgement of the larger struggles of queer identity. She seems to view her journey as a clear-cut example of simplifying your expectations, even doling out advice to other women as she muddles through tales of her own experience. Realistically, she's a privileged white woman who married a famous white woman 3 years ago, yet writes about it as though she's had decades to self-reflect. It feels self-serving and empty, and I had to abandon it a third of the way through.
