“Please what? What is it you need, Charlotte?”
“You. I need you.”

I couldn’t stop myself from latching onto him, kissing him, my tongue dueling with his as we greedily tried to ravish one another.

It was foolishness. Reckless. And my rational side begged me to be strong enough to fight it. To fight him. But his touch, his kiss, how his presence owned me every time he came close—it had me hypnotized and bound, unable to stop falling into the darkness with him.

Elijah. My body craving his touch as if it had always known him.
Was this what insanity felt like? The voices tearing you apart, ripping you in two—your body and mind at war with each other?
His touch was hot, his presence heavy, and the longer I lingered within this high, the harder I would fall once I came down.

She scoffed. “I love how you talk about mafia and killing people as if it’s this normal thing in the world.”

“It is in mine.”

Our gazes fused, neither one of us blinking—her defiance vs my dominion. Soon she’d realize that going against me was just a waste of fucking time.

Those pretty doe eyes of hers looked up at me. “And what exactly do I need to do to survive you?”

And there it was again, the buzz of desire that vibrated through every bone in my fucking body, urging me to touch. Taste. Devour. The longer I stood there looking down at her, the more I imagined tearing through that silk blouse so I could wrap my lips around one of her pebbled nipples and suck them raw.

But fate had me cross paths with the raven-haired cellist whose dance with the majestic instrument silenced and tamed every slither of darkness that consumed me since the night I changed from boy to beast...her music started to reach out to me, as if it longed to touch my soul.
She’s a job. A contract. Nothing more. Those words became a fucking mantra—and I had to hold onto it now more than ever.

“Who are you?” My voice carried a panicked pitch, and I hardly managed a breath.
“That depends.”
“On what?”
He placed his hands in the pockets of his black pants, squaring his shoulders, standing regal and proud. “On who’s asking.”

“My job is to make sure you never fuck with the wrong people ever again.” I turned to face him, and his complexion paled instantly.
“Jesus.”
“I’m afraid Jesus isn’t here.” I stepped closer. “Not today, and certainly not for you.”
“Are you that guy, the one everyone whispers about?"

SNEAK PEEK:

As the final note played, I lifted the bow away from the strings and exhaled. Silence slowly smothered the sound until there was nothing left of the music I had just played.

My chest rose and fell, my skin electrified, and sweat beading at my temples.
