My first thought was why do I need to read about Slavery in Islam from the perspective of an American scholar in Islamic studies, I may need to look for answers from an authentic source (that comes from my culture). Then I realized that the world I’m living in has been so Americanized and Brown may introduce a more genuine analysis to a neglected topic in the contmeprary Arabic Islamic studies.

Manar Yes I know and he mentioned the multiple identities he has/represents in writing this book, American, white man and Muslim. This is maybe what made me think of the origins of his discourse and how valuable it could be (to me).
