This is WAY better than the last two books in this series. I think I can see how the love story is being set up though with a great misunderstanding that's kind of lame. And as usual I don't like the dude they're probably gonna stick her with even half as much as the other dude (or who I'm sure will be the other dude ... Too early!) Really craving another scandalous Carr like Lion Triumphant or Song of Siren tho.

This heroine (Annora, daughter of Jessica from the previous book) is getting to be so wishy-washy. If she would just open her damn mouth and speak she could solve a lot of her problems, but I guess then she would reach her happily-ever-after too easily and we can't have that. I still want to know the answer to the mystery. I have all kinds of wild theories.

Hoping this one is more exciting than the last two, which were a letdown for me following the excitement of Knave of Hearts (AKA Zipporah's Daughter).

So you’d rec those Carrs as safe bets? I only have a handful of the Carrs on WL because reviews are so mixed.

Yeah, I think those two are pretty exciting. Honestly, I love the whole series but again, I love Holt/Carr writing in general even when she gets a little wordy / redundant. The last two in this series were kinda lackluster to me since there are repeating themes by that point. Also, Carr/Holt often sticks her characters right in the middle of major historical events, so in books where there's not much to put them in, it's a bit of a letdown. I think Knave of Hearts (Zipporah's Daughter) is another good one with the French Revolution. I'm also partial to the first one (St. Bruno's - Henry 8) and Saraband for 2 Sisters (English Civil War). Also, u likely need to read The Love Child if u read Song of the Siren because of significant things that happen in Love Child that impact Siren's character.
I have yet to try the Daughters series, but I always figured I should read the first couple before skipping any. I can’t remember which I have on WL, tho.
