Well, this hit harder than I expected it to. I contemplated giving it 4* for how much better the series has gotten since its first installment, now however I'm confident that it deserves such rating on its own. All the setups pay off in a grand manner, the dialogues are sharper than ever, the world is beautiful and innovative, the characters loveable if sometimes less than original; the love stories are on par -

I'm surprised just how well written is this. The love stories, the politics, Alina's character arc, the dialogues are just so good it's hard to imagine that this is the same series as Shadow & Bone. I'm afraid to learn why Sophie ended up liking this one the least, though.
