So, I'm just realizing that, despite being labeled book one, this isn't actually the first book in the series and I cannot over-emphasize how much that annoys me. Especially since it's looking like the plot of this book hinges on whatever happened in the previous one, making it feel (so far, at least) necessary to have read before this one. WHICH WOULD MAKE IT, NOT THIS ONE, BOOK ONE! Why do authors do this?
