We will argue that to understand world inequality we have to understand why some societies are organized so inefficiently. Economists have focused on "getting it right", while we need an explanation for "getting it wrong". As we will show those who have power make choices that create poverty. They get it wrong not by mistake or ignorance but on purpose. How decisions actually get made, who gets to make them, and why.
