this book deserves a Nobel prize this is the best read of 2021

I think the author was inspired by Hemingway's iceberg theory as there is so much deeper meaning hidden in these simple words of Quirk. He surprises me every reading. :) 5/5 I would recommend.

I haven't thought about it in this way! it's amazing that you can actually find traces of the iceberg technique in this textbook. it really shows Quirk's mastery of language! and did I mention the verbless clause? those examples always give me chills, magnificent use of ambiguity :)))))
