That opening paragraph is so overwrought that I immediately envision the author as 14 year old school girl writing fan fiction.

As a former 14 year old girl, I too resemble that remark and I've got the journals to prove it. 😜
The writing isn't terrible, just labored and I'm not sure I am enjoying the story enough to look past that.
