Ron is a butthole, but even worse, the house elves are portrayed in a really racist light (and almost all wizards are okay with their enslavement! And Hermione's SPEW is looked down on by everyone!). Stuff I didn't pick up on as a kid. The chapter when the trio visit the Hogwarts kitchen was really uncomfortable to listen to because HoUsE eLvEs LiKe BeInG eNsLaVeD 😳 How was this not challenged by an editor?

May never finish the audiobook series; my neighbor has, no joke, weaponized them against me by loudly listening to them at night—as in starting at 11pm and extending to who knows when. I've woken up at 1, 2, and 4am on separate nights and still heard the rumbles of the exact same reader. Am I going crazy? That's why I may stop listening. The book itself if pretty good, of course. But yeesh.
