Most people who have left a review on this book's Goodreads page mean to be reviewing the novella Heart of Darkness itself...whereas this is a book of literary criticism; it gives a history of how critical reception of the novella has evolved since its publication in 1902. What I've learned so far: Conrad was almost forgotten until TS Eliot wrote "mistah kurtz-he dead" as an epigraph in his poem The Hollow Men.
