He released a dry laugh. 'You don't get to be in charge of how I feel about you.'" (237) ok, fair.

"'I love you and I want to build a future with you. I want you to have my babies and sleep in my arms every night for the rest of our lives.'" (237) aaand that's coming on a bit strong.

"He wanted to brand her as his, to make it impossible for her ever to want to make love to any other man. It was with this thought that he recognized the depth of his love for Savannah Sinclair." (222) the depth of your possessiveness. the word you're looking for is possessiveness.

"'It's possible Mac's temper got the best of him. I don't believe he killed her on purpose, but maybe they got into a tussle and Shelly wound up dead, and Mac stole the engagement ring as if to have the final say.'" (217) wait. THAT's the perverse thing referred to earlier? apparently we're just at cain and abel perverse.

"He looked again at the table of town bigwigs, his focus yet again on Neil Sampson. Had Savannah downplayed what had happened between them years ago? Had their intimate encounter been more of a rape than she'd indicated?" (205) gahhhh degrees

"'Chad is from the swamp side of town?'
... 'He's four or five years younger than us.'" (175) wait okay more romance novel math. He's younger than them, but on p54 he was thirty-something, but on p14 Savannah was 27, two years before when the murder happened, which means she's now 29-30ish, so...how...how could he be in his thirties and be 4-5 years younger? (answer: editor error)

"'Donnie,' Trey called to the man who had remained standing next to the treasure chest. 'Is there something strange in your basement?'

Donnie frowned. 'I've got lots of what most people would consider strange down in the basement. I'm not sure what you're talking about.'" (155) what kind of question is that?? and what kind of answer????

'Come on, Savannah. It wouldn't be nice of you not to let me return the favor.'" (87) ugh gross. when he's an officer of the law and she isn't and there's power dynamics? gross.

He wanted to find that woman again, to help her heal not just for herself, but for him. Time hadn't erased his desire for her." (72) well, at least he's being honest with himself, I guess.
