This book went from "kinda bad" to "big yikes" after some uncomfortable, dehumanizing comparisons and a quote from a Rage Against the Machine song at the beginning of a chapter about euthanasia. The song was Killing In The Name, by the way, which is about police violence against Black people. Completely, unspeakably inappropriate.

I dunno about this book, I finished part 1 and there is still no thesis. It's kind of just the author's stream of consciousness about pets.

The author makes a lot of good points so far regarding reasons we should question the ethics of pet-keeping, and in that sense I think the book is worth reading for any pet owners (or aspiring pet owners). There doesn't really seem to be a thesis, though--it's more like a list of "things to consider".
