These set of profound short stories are high on symbolism. In fact they are so truly enmeshed that the reader starts looking at the most trivial objects as symbols. One of the repeated symbols is that of the hyena, as a macabre metaphor for the beastly qualities within us. In fact, Ashraf plunges us into the deep recesses of the animal nature within us to make us aware of the limits, and the value of, our humanity.
