In 1872, bankrupt railroad tycoon Doc Durant demands his family leave their London household to help rebuild their fortunes in the Adirondack wilderness where he has acquired 1/2 million acres. For his daughter Ella it means leaving behind her fiance and a high society lifestyle she's been accustomed to.
