I am already somewhat familiar with the Kabbalah from the writings of Danish occultist/science-fiction author Erwin Neutzsky-Wulff (think Scandinavia's answer to Robert Anton Wilson) but he is of course the pop culture version of the Kabbalah and attached to some rather idiosyncratic theories of his own. So I decided to get a look at a more traditional scholarly take on the subject...

This contains so much densely packed information that is new to me. For example how much the Kabbalah owes to Neo-Platonic mysticism that re-interprets the dualistic metaphysics of Plato himself into a more holistic system where all the different conflicting components of the universe become different manifestations of the same divine universal consciousness. (compare to the Sephiroth, same basic idea)
