honestly it's so refreshing to see an "immortal" still stuck with the same bad habits us "mortals" get caught in because HI HELLO THAT'S REALISTIC????

and yes Corayne managing all these people older than her is the best I need more of it

YESSS especially considering their ways. Someone not used to injury or rest or sleep or death will HAVE to be bewildered when encountering it, same as grief. It makes sense, with the culture they're noted to have.

Seriously, I was getting so tired of all the clueless YA heroines and for me, Corayne with her mind and experience of having basically been her mother's mother for years (like, I just need more of that dynamic—the way her mum hovered around her, seeking attention, and also being wild and fleeting and needing the responsible Corayne's order) is just a breath of fresh air.

and yessssss the mother's mother even though they're the child IS SO NICE TO SEE IN FANTASY because I've seen it more in contemporaries but the same things happen in fantasy too?? and yeah so much fresh air in this book
