Why can't Mitchell just write short stories and not think of himself as oh so grand to need to pretend like these stories are so intricately entwined? Like...they're basically in chronological order, there's a birthmark, and he spoon feeds the connection between every chapter. Huzzah.

It kinda feels like Mitchell tried really hard to make some interconnecting novel, but it feels like a bunch of separate stories with a line or two in each to let you know how exactly they relate.
