Looking forward to your thoughts on this one!"Gabrielle, you're missing out not only on this series, which carries all sorts of fun titles (look up Mélancolies identitaires : Une année à lire Mathieu Bock-Côté, by Mark Fortier), but also on all publications by this young and relevant think tank that is Institut de recherche et informations socio-économiques (IRIS). It sounds really dry, but it's not; think of it as the equivalent of a more sober David Graeber, but still entirely enjoyable, and based right here.
Du vin et des jeux follows in the same footsteps as volume 2 of Dépossession : Une histoire économique du Québec contemporain; both volumes were great reads for me before. Volume 1 examined the many ways in which Quebecers are not benefiting from the exploitation of ore, wood, electricity, etc., as much as they could - and why - despite Resources forming a governmental competence. Volume 2 explains how the Québec education system, healthcare system, etc., came to be what they are today. I loved volume 2.
You strike me as the perfect reader for Du vin et des jeux and all these other books - right after me. ;P
