It's interesting! I definitely see your point about the female perspective being quite different from the last book. I don't feel any real "kinship" with the characters, but I never do with Atwood's books. I don't think we're supposed to? Either way, I like the characters, and the story, but I feel like I'm waiting for Crake's plague to rain down on them to see what really happens. If that makes sense.

Yeah, her characters are - hmm. I don't know, sometimes I think she writes them a bit flat, so that you can overlay your own impressions. I won't ruin it for you, only will say that the plague is portrayed in a different way than in Oryx & Crake, that's for sure.

Yes, that's it! It's not that they aren't interesting, but they're not usually deep. I think it's on purpose, like you said, to overlay your own impressions.
