I am having a "love/hate" relationship with this book. I love the way Melanie Benjamin depicts the characters -- so alive and realistic -- but I do not like the characters. They are so vain, so self-centered, so unconcerned about what's happening outside their little bubble unless it threatens to expose them. Every time I think I will read no more, Benjamin grips me like a magnet.
