I'm trying really hard to find good in this, but so far I am not enjoying the writing style. It feels clunky and inconsistent.

I feel really bad, but this writing is driving me insane. The present tense, random explanations of stuff that feel copy pasted from an online resource, and the lack of development and poor writing is making it hard to finish. Since it's a short book and I won it, I will, but I wouldn't hesitate to DNF.
