Ruined. She needed to be ruined. “Ghost.” She hated the trembling in her voice, but it couldn’t be helped. “What would you do if I was over eighteen?” “But you’re not.” “But what if I was?” His gaze lifted, hungry. “I think you already know the answer to that, sweetheart.” Ruined. Ruined. Ruined.

Jan -- How is this series? I just tried reading her Sons of Rome and it was so painful I DNF'd the first book at 32%. Loved her Hell Theory Trilogy, though.

It's been over 5 years since I read the first book and I decided to pick it up where I left.
I am not sure what you mean by"painful" tho. 🤔
This is a biker series, very contemporary, there's violence, is dark and gritty. The first book has a good age gap between the MCs. That's why I was so surprised when I saw she wrote a fantasy series. Because I only knew her "Biker" series.
Dartmoor has 8 books out. I've read 6 of them, 5 were 4 and 5 stars. Only one book I didn't like. Amazing series.
By painful, I mean it was long and meandering and desperately in need of an editor. 32% in (approx 200 pages) and still nothing had happened and about 2300 more pages (4 books) to wade through just didn't bode well. so...Dark, gritty, and violent, I can definitely get behind. Maybe I'll give book 1 a try soon to see if it grabs me. I'm still in PNR mode, so trying to find something to grab me, there. If I don't find anything I'll see if contemporary works :)
Oh, ouch. That's awful!I had no issues with this, but English is not my mother language, Jewel.😬
In fact, my formal English education is almost zero. Therefore, I'm not the right reader to make this kind of call. 🙊🙉🙈
What about Broken Ink? I'm not a fantasy reader, but this is J Pyke. It's a bizarre kind of fantasy. You could read the sample??
Your English is largely self-taught? I'm impressed! As we all know, her Drake Chronicles is super delicious, and I did enjoy the Hell Theory Trilogy. I mean, even in those, I think an editor would have been a good thing, but both series were pretty tight, anyway. Sons of Rome ... not so much. Ah well.
I see you sent me a couple recs, so I'll check them out. I've read one rather fucked up book by Jack Pyke before (my kind of fucked up, mind you lol), so maybe I will check out Broken Ink. Thanks!!
I’m an immigrant. Got here - UK speaking zilt, nada. My school was the streets. I’ve started reading in English in 2011 when my husband gave me a kindle. GR is the only place I write in English. So, there is that, another school.😅 I’m brave enough to write thanks to the tools we have access nowadays, if wasn’t for the spelling checks i would be screwed. 🥴
Immersion is the best way to really learn a language, for sure. It teaches you how people really communicate with each other. A classroom might teach you sentence structure and basic conversation skills, but there is nothing like real-world practice. And right on about the online tools and spell checks! So handy!

Have you finished this series?!😲😲
