Is this more of the same? I found 'The Da Vinci Code' to be a page-turner in the most mediocre way: compelling because of how simple the language is and how convoluted the plot is. Does this read the same way?

Oh, absolutely the same. While it's still a page turner, I find myself rolling my eyes every few pages. His books are very formulaic and his writing is just terrible. If you didn't like Da Vinci, you definitely won't like this. While it still keeps me interested, I find his books less and less enjoyable.
