I was initially wary of this, bc at first the author seemed really invested in the narrative of "O'Banion was a great guy!" but so far the first few chapters seem more like "O'Banion was a great guy to some people, but also he was super fucked up and would go on to do some murders and a lot of voter intimidation," which feels much less weird.
