Several times sweeping statements are made with no citations whatsoever. The main analysis of walls so far is that they create a barrier between a soft civilised people and big scary barbarians. Astonishing. Illuminating. I was hoping a book titled walls would have a greater insight into what they might be used for (controlling trade? Legitimising borders?).
