This languished on my Kindle for SIX MONTHS because I hit a scene that made me worry something bad (a particular something bad) was about to happen to the MC. Which made me SO ANXIOUS that I couldn't read any further. Every time I opened the book thinking "This time I'll be able push through!" it turned out I couldn't. But finally, today I made it through that damned scene. And the bad thing DIDN'T EVEN HAPPEN.

Teal I regret that I have only 2 eyes to roll at myself. Because this level of idiocy deserves ALL THE EYEROLLS.

Teal A big thank-you to Ele and Linda for giving me the pep talk I needed to resume reading. 🤗

Tamara Hah, I can relate - I've DNFed books over that feeling of impending something-that-will-give-me-palpitations-for-sure-i-swear 😓
For me, it usually has to do with lying/getting caught in it.

Gillian Hard relate!

message 5: by Pablito (new) - added it

Pablito Know that feeling, Teal. Admire the honesty.

Teal It delights and amazes me to learn I'm not the only one who suffers from this. 😮

Candy M. I relate so much too! Although I usually step away for a day or two to "brace myself." Then feel like a clown when my fears prove to be completely unwarranted 😭

Elena Congratulations for pushing through that wall, Teal, well done!! 🥳🥳

Teal Thanks, Ele! Hopefully there are no more roadblocks ahead. 🤞🏼

WhatAStrangeDuck I'm not going to lie, there may be some road blocks (without knowing what stopped you this time) but I can honestly say that all in all this is a fucking fantastic series and well worth your time. The author takes some time to develop the character arcs and that is some seriously good yarn right there. (Sorry, I edited this after realizing that I put probably a major spoiler in that comment. GAH!)

Also, having read the whole series - I don't know whether it was planned that way - but, yeah, well, as I recall it most of my WTF moments/concerns were dealt with.

Then again, having read them as the came out (so major time gaps between reading the books in RL) I can't tell how well that works as a whole but the author is in it for the long haul. The dynamics between the characters are so, so interesting over the course of the books without taking away from the individual plots.

Anyhow, you know that this is pretty much my version of flailing my arms and jumping up and down here so maybe you probably also know that I'm serious.

So, go forth and read it.

If handholding is required, hands will be held.

:-)

Teal Thanks for the offer, Duck. At this rate I'll need all the handholding I can get. :)

The thing that set me off was so trivial, objectively speaking -- I was simply afraid that (view spoiler). I'm such a wimp, I know. It's pathetic. But the fact that I was so emotionally invested is a tribute to the writing, and the characterization in particular. It's a damn good book so far.
