Progress rather slow 😬

I was watching football on telly, last night.

She came up close and peered up at him as if he were some kind of alien species. “You really threw a spanner into it, didn’t you? They put your face on the dartboard at the Goat, you know.”
“Did they?”
“Indeed. I got you straight in the eye one night. Won a pint for it, I did.”
“Congratulations.”

So he was ‘Danny’ here in Elspeth’s neighborhood. A few times in the nearly two weeks he’d been hiding out here, he got the strong sense that, despite his shaved face, everybody who lived and worked on these few blocks knew precisely who he was and either didn’t care, or cared too much about Elspeth to make a fuss.

Well, it had been the way he’d always written back in the day, when it was just him and his guitar, and then he’d take the new song to his best friends, who’d love it, and they’d flesh out their own parts for their instruments.

Now, though, with mega-corporate studio execs in the mix, and focus groups, and market research, and all that happy crappy, songs got written by committee and on demand.

“Dallas is your real name? I thought it was something you cooked up to be rock and roll.”

She shrugged it off, then furrowed her brow at him. Those eyebrows suggested that the carpet would match the drapes. A true redhead. Have mercy. “What have you called me?”

Tonight, Dallas was over it.
