The author also makes pretty weird assumptions about the mentality of my country, rather representing our culture how he would want it to be, rather than how it is.
Some informations are simply wrong. E.g. the words beech and book did not become 'intertwined' over time, but originally derived from the same indo-european root for beech: *bhago-. Later, words connected to writing derived from the tree name.

As the section connected to my own country and culture is so upsettingly full of errors, rather representing the author's imagination, I must now assume that the sections linked to other countries and cultures are equally misinforming.
I do not know yet, if I will continue reading this book. I assume the botanical information is correct, but now I must doubt every cultural information given.

What a load of rubbish!
Originally, I thought this book quite lovely, but reading through the sections concerning my own country was quite upsetting! Those are nothing but uninformed misconceptions and errors. The author often assumes the situation from 100, 200 years ago to be still applying today. tbc.

I love the detailed stories and cultural backgrounds. - This is more than just a botanical book telling you which trees exist and what they look like. The drawings are also pretty and the paper is good quality.
