The dreadful battle of five armies is astounding, the descriptions are greatly impressive. The book is delightfully imaginative! "So comes snow after fire, and even dragons have their ending!" Said Bilbo, and he turned his back on his adventure.

Bilbo is taking the lead in this part of the story, he showed his usefulness in spite of his hopelessness and weariness, yet he wishes he did not get involved in such adventure* it feels like his survival instincts are helping keeping him going. The magic ring and the tremendous luck are also playing an important role in the successiveness of the events.

The eight chapter "Flies and spiders" is very well-described, skilfully illustrated, stimulating and unleashing the imagination, intriguing as well. The adventure gets intense in this chapter, Bilbo gets fiercer and shows bravery(A drastic change, for he seemed to be a burden in the previous chapters, more like a fearful comfort-seeking kind of hobbit). It appears that Bilbo has finally pulled himself together!
