If your'e looking to *really* improve your Urdu vocabulary/reading/writing skills or just want to be entertained by the erudite banter of the raftagaan, I'd very highly recommend the Nuqoosh set of books, especially this Tanz-o Mizah Number and the other Aap Beeti series. This is some of the very best stuff that's out there. Woefully under-appreciated.

Literary stalwarts like Akbar Allahabadi and Ratan Nath Sarshar wrote for Awadh/Oudh Punch. Other contributors were: Syed Mohammad Azad, Tribhuvan Nath Hijr, Machchu Baig Sitam Zareef, Jwala Prashad Barq and Ahmed Ali Shauq. Oudh Punch was one of the first papers to publish political satire, especially protesting British rule, in India.
