I am interested in this because it contains so many examples of Hillman's dream interpretation from his patients and fans' experiences, curious to see what his re-invention of psychology as an occult system drawing on half Greco-Roman paganism half Renaissance-era alchemy looks like in practice. Expecting something not so far from Jodorowsky's Psychomagic...

I had no idea Hillman had this great a sense of humour, there is a hilarious section where he pontificates about how modern day hamburger eating represents a debased form of Mithraic bull-sacrifice symptomatic of modern Westerners' dysfunctional relationship with the divine - it sounds stark ravering bonkers cut out in cardboard but Hillman presents it in a way that makes perfect intuitive sense which is impressive

This book is quite insightful about the symbolic roles that different animals have filled in various religions and how humans in general have related to other animals throughout history - not just how these topics reflect in people's dreams about animals. Also has some harsh words for modern Western anthropocentrism, delivered with typical Hillmanesque finesse
