Hey!
Do you guys mark comic books/manga on this site? I'm reading this manga called Spy x Family and I'm not sure if I should count it towards my yearly goal.

dang that was a pretty big comment on my philosophy when it comes to goodreads, and I'm sorry for the Ted Talk

I do count both rereads and DNFs, so I guess in that sense it would make perfect sense to add manga as well.
I think I will use the website My Anime List as well (it's basically Goodreads for manga/anime), because I am getting back into anime now, but also log the manga here as well. It's going to be interesting to review manga, I have never done that before, other than memeing them with my friends and such. :D
I normally only reread things after a couple years at least or if a new part in the series is coming and I want to refresh. (Right now I am doing that with Monster Hunter International. I accidentally got a signed copy from a used book site, I had no idea.)
Then again, I think I will also do some ridiculously long books later this year, so it will probably balance things out.
I actually counted all of The Sandman books to my reading challenge this year. Some where at least 200 pages or more so I felt it was still a time investment.Good luck Derpa with what you decide to do!

I do count..."
Prior to June (I was prioritizing 300-400 paged books then for readathon), I was actually reading a lot of big chunkers, so even with my novellas/short stories it summed to ~440 pages per book. However, if I included DNFs (which are usually 50-100 pages in), the number went down to ~360p per book. GR "total pages" stat was off by ~2000 pages as I've dnfed ~10 books
I like big books and I feel like I'm not afraid of big books, so considering that ~10% of what I read is shorter fiction between 20 and 150 pages, I rather like to think that it balances up to avg of mid 400s
I don't reread books "prior to release date" as I in general stopped reading ongoing series cuz of this exact reason - not wanting to reread every year/two years the books I'd given 3-4 stars just to understand the newly released sequel better; I might read Stormlight Archive 1-5 when b5 is released, and then wait for 15 years and reread it and finish the books... (Dang it it's so far into the future)
So I don't reread ongoing series, just the books that are my "comfort zone", many of them are far from perfect but I know I will enjoy 85% of its contents on rereads, even after 5/10/20 rereads. But really, imagine clicking on someone's reading challenge and all Twilight books are present there TWO or THREE times in just one year, and then you click on the review of that person and it says it's been reread 20+ times. That's
I've been reading a few books lately that I thought about "hmmmm... I'd love to reread this in 2-4 years to pick up on more plot points cuz this might be better on a reread" - Night angel, legacy of ash... I'm currently 4 out of 5 books on A song of Ice and Fire reread, I don't think I'll ever give a chance to Pat Rothfuss but I want to start Malazan which I've heard is great on rereads, and if I ever read WoT, I might also reread it, even if I dislike it
I've heard about My Anime List but I don't watch anime (wanted to get into it but in general I stopped watching movies/series for the most part and I already have reading as a big consumerism hobby, I don't want another one for myself), and keeping all things in one place seems good to me, especially since I dont read manga and barely read comics, so I don't feel like I need to keep it separate? Although I do have a separate stats spreadsheet that covers books from this year + I constantly download the personal Goodreads library data spreadsheet from the goodreads settings that has all of my goodreads history (ISBN, rating, reading date, review) saved as I'm afraid that one of my controversial reviews would catch a big mob and I'd get banned for wrongthink

I tried a few different comic book series back in the days when I was reading 90-150 new books every year
I felt like adding every single issue was like cheating my yearly goal as issues are only 20-25 pages worth of pictures, besides, I didn't enjoy the genre that much to rate every single issue.
Instead I was adding comic books in volumes, it still felt sort of cheaty cuz I can finish a whole 4-to-6 issues volume within an hour;
Adding it to GR per volume worked for me as I could sum up enough thoughts for a review and a rating (also, i've never had physical comic books, but I've always hated the view of single issues and rather liked the view of 100-150-paged volumes)
Maybe it also felt justifiable to me as I was reading a lot of YA and there're tons of short stories and novellas that exist in YA (Or at least did back in the day). I always make my yearly goal with the thought that there're going to be ~10 books that are <150 pages, whether it's a comic book volume, or a novella, or a short story
(I haven't read any Manga, but from description, Spy x Family (and many other mangas) would fit under my definition of "Volume" - not too short and not too long)
There're bigger comic book bind-ups that have more issues (starting from 8 issues, but usually consisting of 10/12/15, but sometimes I see very big bind ups that are like 24 issues issues in one book), but it felt like too many issues for me to sum my thoughts on and rate, besides I often wanted to DNF comic series before I reached that amount of issues
Overall, I've come to conclusion that goodreads page is primarily an organization tool for me + a review space and a place where I can find and discuss books. It doesn't matter what my "reading challenge" here is. I DNF books quite a lot but I still count them on my goodreads page and obviously the stats I see on goodreads are faulty because of that reason.
I've started doing my own spreadsheet that suits my goals and gives me more accurate stats including page number when DNFing, and I can even make it so I have different categories: actual book pages read / pages listened to on AB / pages read in a comic book
I like having the Graphic Novels/Comic Books I read rated here on goodreads so I can see absolutely all the books (and ratings, and reviews) I'd read in my whole life (except childhood) and see how my reading changed over the years (ok, i have deleted most of naughty books from goodreads as I've found God, and most of them were 1-2 stars anyways)
I also don't count rereads on goodreads, and many people do - so I have a different approach to Reading Goals than many/most people here do, but for me there's a clear distinction between reading new books and rereading and I want to make sure I read X new books and not set a limit on rereads
besides, if I had to set every reread separately on GR it would show on my bookshelves how embarrassingly many times I've reread Twilight (over 20) and how many times I still reread it per year (I swear, sometimes i can reread the whole series, and start another reread right away again, it's embarassing, I know))I quite often see people on goodreads having a number "500" set in their yearly goal, and then I click on the books they're reading and it's 95% comic books and manga, and comic books are all rated each separate 20-25 page issue. That works for them, and they're primarily a graphic-media reader anyway. Sometimes I see people on goodreads primarily reading 30-100 books a year, 90% of what they read is regular novels, but the rest is comic books with every single issue rated. That works for them. I also see many people like me who rate only per volume, and a few who rate the big bind-ups
