Oh. It isn't getting better. So painful. I'm just reading so I can get closure. I can make it to the predictable, pat, hackney, bromidic ending. I can do this.

I'm not a therapist. But Gottlieb's emotional neediness and bid for external validation from strangers is not subtle. Is it important that we know she worked on Grey's Anatomy and Friends and went to medical school at Standford and was good enough to return to medical school for psychiatry but chose psychology instead because she really cares for people? Cringe-reading.

Unfunny. Unless we're supposed to be laughing at Gottlieb. But second-hand embarrassment isn't funny to me. Gottlieb writes the most banal things with such a self-assured sense of profundity you can almost hear her sharp intake of breath and pause as she waits for you to process her wisdom.

Awful. Painful to read. Gottlieb unwittingly uses the reader as a therapist while smarmily explaining what therapy is and how amazing she is for being a therapist. I'd feel embarrassed for her if she wasn't so obnoxious. She's the person at the party you want to avoid and can't wait to get away from if you can't.

Destigmatizing mental health issues and therapy is necessary. This isn't it. We can do much better.
