Ok, after a whole page of analyzing the exact meaning for the name 'Esgaroth' (i.e. Lake-town), Rateliff deduces that it probably means 'city standing in or rising up out of the water, perhaps with a suggestion of pilings like reeds.' This is about as exciting as this book gets, guys!
