What can I say? I like Donna Tart's writing and almost immediately got drawn into this book. The premise was fascinating; as a former New Yorker I loved these settings, and the characters were well written.
That said, we were in the teenage years of Vegas and drugs and no parenting waaaaayyyy too long. This book needed to be cut. The story would have been more of a pleasure and less of a drudge and, yes, scan-fest, had it been cut.
I am hoping Ms. Tart treats us to a female protagonist next round. We know she does the child/teenage/young adult voices well as shown by her first three books. I think I'm getting tired of her version of the male voice.
