Cecily
is finished
More of a challenge than the other Josipovicis I've read, but it (mostly) falls into place in the final few sections.
When reading, it requires patience, attention to detail, and analytical thinking. After reading, I need to ruminate before writing a review.

Kaya wrote: "... Which of his works do you recommend starting with?"Probably not this one, though it is good, and I've only read five. I think my first was probably the best and most straightforward, A Cemetery in Barnes: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Only Joking was also very good, and lighter in some ways: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I had not heard of this author until a theologian friend recommended one of his lesser known books, The Book of God (not a novel, but a scholarly book). Outside of the theologians he critiques, his main reference point is Proust, who was never on my TBR list. But I realized I was not going to understand Josipovicis's analysis without reading at least one volume of Proust.
I recommend A Musical Offering to go with this book. The Goldberg Variations have a strong presence in that book but in a lighter way. I made the same suggestion to Fionnuala and it was a roaring success.

And what you say about A Musical Offering, "It is very hard to write a review for this book because I am not sure what it is" also applies to this.
