Isn't it ironic how frequently we question the willingness of others to do what must be done to improve schools, and in doing so, absolve ourselves of the responsibility for taking action?

Formative assessments are to summative assessments what a physical examination is to an autopsy. Summative - great for evaluating a program - informs work with next group of students - does nothing to help students leaving who didn't master skills taught. Formative - critical in providing timely feedback on the learning of every individual student.
