Nathanimal.... If it is so wonderful, why did you rate it a 3? ;) It does sound interesting, though.
It has a different title on your side of the pond, though...
Oh, weird! This book used to be called Unruly Places: Lost Spaces, Secret Cities, and Other Inscrutable Geographies and apparently I did read it. (I have almost no memory of this.) It does sound like precisely the kind of book I might pick off a bookshop shelf and devour so quickly and thoughtlessly that I can't remember a thing about it later. But that was tricky of them to change the title.
This is one of the main reasons I started using this site. Now if I start to read something I've already read, I will notice.
It's as I've said; there's a long tradition of marketing departments renaming British works for the US market. 'Unruly Places' is the US title - it was always called 'Off the Map' in the UK.
