The Westmorland. 4.5. This late addition to the reissued collection has a slightly different feel but some really interesting ideas about the nature of ghosts, and as for the hotel’s true priorities, very intriguing. Low on fear, and slightly put off at the camera bag concept, though a neat solution in real world terms 38.5:8

Glasshouse. 5. More cinematic than the others, but none the worse for that. Compelling & a nice twist. 29.5:6

5. Temple. Tense build up, interesting phenomena and intriguing type of haunting, based solely on psychological trauma, not physical harm. 24.5:5

Ocean Grand. 4.5. Great build up, marvellous concept, well told, but the climax felt a little flat. And perhaps a little too concrete compared to the other stories so far. Not far short of the rest, though. 19.5:4

St Patrick’s. 5. Exceptionally well conveyed terror and panic. So relatable, you could actually be there, experiencing the deep fear. These are great stories. 15:3

Merry House. 5. Mysterious at first, then suspenseful and unsettling and finally grim. Monsters and children in peril don’t usually work for me but this is masterful. 10:2

The Elms. 5. Beautifully restrained and the unassuming ghost provoked more terror than any vengeful or malign spirit. So believable. 5:1
