It is also possible that she didn't menstruate all the time. I spent the first 6 months of my time at Annapolis not menstruating, when my company officer found out through my roommates somehow don't ask me how they noticed that I wasn't having a period, I was almost sent to the first Navy medical no good reason. It was just a matter of not having enough body fat.

This is the same thing that we were told growing up, being part of the so-called Talented Tenth, that we had damn well be a credit to our race to show the world what we were capable of accomplishing.

It was convenient that so many freed slaves had nowhere to go, and nothing but the scraps of clothing on their backs. Then, as now, the military has apparently been "three hots and a cot" and a miserable salary.

Very nice coincidence, and nice reminder of The Double V, that where Cathy Williams also known as William Cathay, signed up for enlistment was later on the training location for Tuskegee Airmen when they were beginning their officer training. Cool.
