It's a wonder how some books attract my attention -- in this case, pure serendipity. I come to it having never heard of Jens Peter Jacobsen -- and now I'm completely absorbed by his life and work. This book is a gem, wonderfully written, a beautiful portrait of this enigmatic, tortured soul.
