I was just viscerally pulled out of this story by the main character mentioning her mother sold an “expensive property” that was worth… $200,000
Apparently in 2016, the housing market was not as hot because $200,000 in an Atlanta suburb will surely not get you much in 2021.

Ok I googled “best Atlanta suburb” and then did a home search for Alpharetta, GA and all the houses were $300,000+ for just a normal, middle-class family home. I found a condo for $220,000.

Ok it’s because I’m reading a newer edition of this book. $200k probably was a lot in the 90s
