Young male ex-athlete whose "whole body and instincts protested: impossible, impossible, impossible!" - not sure if it's sarcasm or author really thinks this is good description of hero's inner world? I'll understand soon I guess.

I have problems imagining someone over 17 years repeating internally "impossible, impossible, impossible!" (and hero was presented as a rather tough, strong person) -- but of course I may be too picky or have missed some nuances along the way.
On the good side, book is interesting enough to read 100 pp in one go, so please don't take my words for "real" critique -- it's just me trying to note down my thoughts while reading the book.
I just was curious :) thanks for clarification. And these "impossible" weren't the real thoughts, just inner feeling
