The chapters about the End of the World remind me of Watermelon Sugar - the way that the world seems peaceful but has a hint of something sinister running through it, and the way that it seems to be a post-apocalyptic/dystopian/utopian world but it’s hard to tell which and what happened that made it like that .

The other chapters following the life of the Calcutec are at points a lot like Kafka’s Trial - he’s a pawn in some system that he doesn’t understand
