Exceptional... much better than the 4 stars i gave it based on my memories of reading it a good few years ago. 35 years of U.S. interactions with 3rd world countries condensed into 300 pages ought to be a tall order but Kolko cuts through it with astonishing concision, systematic and erudite analysis, and a sharp nose for the key facts.
