Wait. Did I read this right? The main characters laughed and clapped when a guy fell off the train, got run over, and got his legs severed from his body? And then they "enjoyed the ride" the rest of the way?!?!?! Wahhttt the heck!

He wasn't like BAD bad. There were two of them and they were going from train car to train car and kinda harassing everyone for money. They didn't kill anyone or anything, but the guy who fell off was the younger brother and after he got run over, the older one freaked out and jumped off after him. Obviously the first one died, if he hadn't, I'd understand the cheering, but he did so I'm just like 🥺

Ahhh I see.

It's moments like this that I wonder who on earth did the author pick for beta readers and/or editors? ;)

message 6: by CC (new)

CC P.S. And also moments like this remind me to make sure when I pick beta readers/editors for my writing, that I'd pick those who'd tell me what they think feels wrong. O.O

CC But if this is more on the comedy side (like, I dunno, Guardians of the Galaxy vibe kind of stuff), then I may understand.... ? (Still. From what you said above, it's a bit disturbing.)

Oh my, right!!!! Seriously, the author has like perfect grammar and everything is planned out really nice and all the locations and route the characters each take are detailed and perfectly organized but then just with other things like the way the characters act/react and just the pacing and stuff... it just makes me keep thinking like I just wish I were the author's editor or something!!! I just can't help thinking again and again, like, the book would be so much better if this happened instead of that 😭😭😭 It bothers me so much! Because I know what I as the reader want from the book but then it just doesn't happen!

Ahh sorry for the rant! It's got two POV's, the American girl's side is much lighter, she's just on vacation and hanging out with this guy she fancies, but then the girl from the Mexican side (she's trying to get to the US) is just way different.

No prob! I like reading rants :D

I see. So I take it it's not really on the murderous comedy side I was referring to.

Got it! :)

(To be very honest I can't really recall a good murderous - or perhaps sarcastic/sardonic? - comedy book that I've actually read. :P I mean, I've read some really ruthless characters as MC like The Cruel Prince but they were not meant to be comedic at all. Some movies come to mind though.
Just wanted to clarify...)

Yeah I can't think of any either, actually! 🤔 There must be some though, that's for sure! And augh I haven't read The Cruel Prince yet, I really need to tho! What's weird is that by the title's you'd think I'd know that the prince is cruel but when you said that he was I was like, "waittt, reallyyyy?!" in my head 😂😂😂

Well. The Prince IS Cruel. From the MC's perspective anyway. ;)

I think you shall see what I mean when you read the trilogy. The third is my favorite.

CC (For some reason I don't recall talking about TCP with you. Are you referring to my comments to someone else's update or something? Just trying to figure out the context here xD)

message 18: by CC (new)

CC Also. It occurred to me that if you did read those comments I posted under Isabelle Reads review... that I probably spoiled the story more than I should have for someone who haven't read them yet. xD (Here I was, thinking I was safe since she apparently read the entire trilogy...)

No, I didn't read it so we're all good! Btw has Goodreads changed for you? The format is different for me when I click into books now (starting yesterday)

No. But a while back (couple of weeks/months?) I noticed everything looked more horizontal...

Ah. I see that I forgot to say that the MC in The Cruel Prince, which is not actually the prince. The MC's name is Jude (a girl :). Sorry about the confusion!

message 23: by CC (new)

CC In general, to prep for reading The Cruel Prince, I should warn you to be prepared for a lot of ruthless, crafty Fae (and humans), as well as a 1st POV narrator/MC/heroine who is not super likeable or innocent or even really morally good (it's part of her arc/journey), and who may or may not be very reliable in her observations/perceptions/judgements. And also the story will likely encourage tears and having your poor reader heart torn out. ;) <3

(It's not everyone's cup of tea. But Holly Black writes beautifully... and I appreciate that as well as the twisty points in the trilogy as a whole.)
