Now *this* is how an enemy pushes a date invite: "Come on. It'll be fun. We can eat a few slices, you can insult me, and then we'll close the evening with a good old-fashioned shoving match." He doesn't respond. All I hear is him breathing. "Okay, how about this: tomorrow evening, I'm going to show up at ten o'clock with a pizza and some drinks. If you're home and you answer, then obviously we eat...."

Well, I'm getting a mite bored. It's good, but obviously not at professional storytelling levels. Exceptional raw, young talent though. Just too emo. I'm about half done, and I'm gonna set it aside. I think, I'd rate it lower this time around as far as enjoyment, but I'm gonna leave it at four stars simply because the author should keep writing, practicing, and growing! Great ideas. Just needs polishing.

Chapter five: Enemies to lovers! I'm seeing it! They are certainly humourous enemies. But serious topics are beneath the snark.

Chapter four: oh! I just had a flash of memory! Funny how that works.... It's Eli's house, with its state of neglect reflecting Eli's poverty and neglect, that trigger my memory of several scenes. I'm pretty sure there is a mother-walking-in-on-scene-of-excellence. (And, man, I never realized how much that wry, self-deprecating, sarcastic narrator voice turns my crank!)

And it's damned funny, his self-depreciation: "Well, right this way, Eli," Mr. Randall says pointing toward my table. He gives me a raised eyebrow look that could either mean 'oh holy hell this is the spawn of Satan' or 'I accidentally left the stove on at home'. I guess you could say I'm not too keen about reading people's thoughts.

Chapter 1 (of 37): Guy's a pessimist, or is that a realist? Whatever he is, he's solved his lack of enthusiasm for his life, his wondering where his 'bliss' is with work. And his boss has just introduced him to his newest charge, Eli. Smooth reading flow.
